On June 6th another event of the Meeting Jewish Holidays series took place in the Old Synagogue Gallery in Nowy Sącz. This time special programme for children and adults was aimed at presenting the Shavuot holiday i.e. Green Week. This holiday is also referred to as Pentecost or the Feast of Weeks and it commemorates the bestowing of the Torah upon Moses. It is one of the primary agrarian holidays. On this day Jewish people decorate their houses with greenery. During the holiday biblical character of Ruth is recalled. This Old Testament heroine was the basis for the artistic workshops for kids, led by the staff of the Voivodship Public Pedagogical Library in Nowy Sącz. After that we had a dance workshop for the youngest led by Zbigniew Kołodziej. In the afternoon part of the event Łukasz Połomski and Artur Franczak gave a short introduction into the history of the holiday and after that a clergymen discussion on the meaning of Torah and Decalogue for Christianity took place. Its participants were fr. Dariusz Chwastek from the evangelical-augsburg parish in Nowy Sącz, fr. Józef Polak SI, vicar of the Holy Spirit parish in Nowy Sącz and pastor Jacek Orłowski of the Pentacostal chruch. Special holiday cookies were prepared by Justyna Michalska.
