On November 11th, on the Independence Day we invite you at 17:00 to the House of History at 21 Pijarska str for the lecture by Mrs Anna Totoń, a local history expert who will be talking about the victims of Biegonice execution (August 21st, 1941), during which also Bolesław Barbacki artist painter and social activist, who served the city in many ways, was killed.

On this year’s anniversary of regaining independence by Poland we will remember people, who gave their life for our Homeland – especially victims of Nazi executioners murdered on 21.08.1941 in Biegonice. We encourage you to come on that day to the execution site in Biegonice, light a candle and give a moment for reflection and meditation about the fates of those who tragically ended their lives there.

One of the people murdered in Biegonice was Bolesław Barbacki – a patriot, a man who saw the involvement in building independent Poland not only through the prism of developing his own artistic career, but who also did many valuable things in his social activity. He founded the Drama Society in Nowy Sącz, where he starred and directed; he created the Industrial Women’s School of Poeple’s School Society for young women to learn the tailoring profession; to helop the graduates he created the PSS Industrial Manufacture; he authored Costumology, a handbook for the history of dress; he was involved in the activities of Sokół Gymnastic Society and more. His death was a great loss for Nowy Sącz, and its contemporary inhabitants owe him a special kind of rememberance for his contributions.
