Independent Heart – 13th Labyrinth of History
| On Oct15,201813th Labyrinth of History focuses on Polish paths to freedom and concepts of the re-born state. It will bring back the life stories of well-deserved citizens of Nowy Sącz and symbols important for every Pole. We use the 100th anniversary of the regained independence as a reason to talk about history, but also to reflect upon the future of our country and its place in the world.
And I so dream about the Polish independence, liberty, freedom – the hum of eagle’s wings and tight ranks of Legions in their shadow…a young girl from Nowy Sącz, Helena Barbacka wrote in 1914. World War I breaking out gave Poles hope of regaining their lost independence. Rebuilding of the stete has proved complicated, starting with determining borders, but in the first years of independence Polish politicians fought for them with great dedication. There were also various concepts for the re-born state. It was a complicated procedure to unite it after more than 120 years of partitions, as it required merging “three halves” with different histories and fates.
