Political Games. Congress of Vienna 1815
| On Sep05,2018The 10th jubilee Labyrinth of History has ended. This year the programme was dedicated to the Congress of Vienna. Congress, held after the fall of Napoleon, was to settle the new order of forces in Europe. It was an event of immense importance in the history of Europe. The congress has set the foundations for the relative harmony between the states, that has been destroyed only by the outbreak of the World War I.

This year’s Labyrinth, despite unexpected trouble, was exquisitely successful. We’ve listened to five very interesting lectures on history, dyplomacy and art history. We’ve hosted prof. dr hab. Andrzej Szwarc from the Warsaw University, who told us about the initial assumptions and course of this great event, Florian Kerschbaumer, a historian from Klagenfurt University has described the technical, artistic and organizational infrastructure of the Congress, invoking numerous anecdotes from the palaces and salons of Vienna. Prof. Michał Baczkowski (Jagiellonian University) brilliantly presented Polish perspective, at the same time dissecting the myths born around the contemporary Polish view of the effects of congress decrees. Art historian Anna Franczyk, filling in for Marta Zdańkowska, talked over the characteristicsof the classical style both in architecture and painting as well as in fashion. Dr Wojciech Biliński, who unfortunately was unable to come to the Labyrinth, was filled in for by Marcin Fronia the head of the Norden Centrum Science Foundation, describing the workings of the Scandinavian countries peace policies to the auditorium. Very vivid point of the programme was the debate prepared by students of the 1st Jan Długosz High School and of the SPLOT Social School Complex in Nowy Sącz under supervision of history teachers: mgr Jacek Tomasik, mgr Beata Budzik and mgr Łukasz Połomski. Young people got engaged in presentation of demands of important countries taking part in the Congress, dividing influences and trying for Europe to gain their desired shape. The debate was observed by Mr Marshall Leszek Zegzda, who was able to spare some time to visit the Labyrinth this year. Young people engagement in the X edition of the programme was also strenghtened by a LARP game called “Spy of his imperial majesty”, prepared by Katarzyna Bajka. In the atmospheric rooms of Strauss Kaffee a group of almost 20 got engaged in discovering of political and love affairs from two centuries ago. Our workshops this year – again –were full. Numerous young people under watchful eye of Maja and Konrad Zawada (Jane Austen Dance School) was learning the dances from the time of the Congress. The Labyrinth was concluded with a beautiful concert prepared by Stanisław Welanyk with students of Secondary State Music School in Nowy Sącz, K. u. K. Galizien-Quartett and Piotr Gorodecki (piano) and Timasz Welanyk (percussion). And until 16th October the “Dyplomats of Sądecczyzna and Gorlice region” exhibition prepared specifically for the X, jubilee Labyrinth. Students are welcome to take part in the Personalities of 1815 Congress.
At the bottom of the page you will find a photogallery of this years Labyrinth. Come and see!
