9th LABYRINTH OF HISTORY FAMILY IN THE FACE OF WAR 1914-1918 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF WORLD WAR I OUTBREAK 05/26/2014-05/29/2014 Nowy Sącz, MCK SOKÓŁ.
9th Labyrinth of History concluded yesterday. This year’s main theme were family histories during the period of World War I. Interesting lectures took place within the Labyrinth. Dr hab. Jerzy Pająk from the Jan Kochanowski University in Kielce has given a lecture entitled “World War I and its impact on the future of societies”, mgr Łukasz Połomski talked about people of Sącz towards the World War I while Katarzyna Sierakowska (from the History Institute of the Polish Science Academy in Warsaw) took part in a panel discussion called “And I still am waiting for him..” together with Xavier Pierson (head of the Verdun Memorial Museum in France). This year young people had the chance to take part in “A Very Long Engagement” (dir. by Jean-Pierre Jeunet) movie projection and in a discussion with film expert mgr Karol Szafraniec and psychologist mgr Bogdan Kajzer. Bogdan Kajzer has also led – together with his assistant, Justyna Michalska – a very interesting psychology workshop entitled “War diary” inspired by Peter Englund’s “The Beauty and the Sorrow” book. The Labyrinth has been concluded by a beautiful musical accent – the “Dawn of Fin de Siècle” concert performed by Martyna Klupś-Radny (transverse flute) and Iwona Popławska-Zimowska (piano). The “Family portrait 1914-1918” exhibition prepared by mgr Łukasz Połomski and Military Section of the Nowy Sącz branch of the Polish Historical Society will be available until June 22nd. We thank all of the guests and participants of the Labyrinth for taking part in it.
