On April 3rd, we invite you to MCK SOKÓŁ for the 3rd Shtetl Cheder. At 17:00 in Sichrawa Auditorium we meet with Agnieszka Traczewska, who will tell us about her latest album “Returns”, about the stories of chasidim pilgrimages… An important topic in our town!
The talk will be hosted by dr Łukasz Połomski, director of the Shtetl of Tsanz.
The book will be available for purchase for 120 zł.

Photographic album: “Chasidic returns to the non-forgotten places” is a collection of artistic excellent photos, a record of passion and the author’s work of, but also the image of a world, that was able to survive, even though it was supposed to forever dissapear from the face of the world.
The chasidim people of Galician towns – Bobowa, Lelów, Góra Kalwaria, Sącz, Rymanów or Bochnia – we mostly see on photographs over a century old.
But Agnieszka Traczewska is a contemporary photographer, documenting how the ruins of synagogues and cemeteries are visited by the descendants of Jewish people once living here.
Two world meet on her photographs: one, marked with destroyed matzevot and another, made up of living people, although they look like the time has stopped.
Traczewska shows “jorzeits”, journeys during which chasidim people come from all over the world to visit the graves of the tzaddiks on the anniversaries of their deaths. They believe, that on this special day, the soul of the tzaddik descends to earth and his mediation with God may grant them a blessing. Photos taken by Traczewska, who was allowed entry into the world normally unavaialbe to the outsiders, hava a historic value, but most importantly they are an intimate portrait of people experiencing the mystery of faith.
